The seed of the thistle Nyjer Seed or Niger Seed and sometimes called Nyger Seed is a favourite wild birds like the Goldfinch, Greenfinch and Siskin. This must be fed through a specialised seed feeder as the seed itself is very small and light and will therefore flow through most standard bird seed feeders.

It is also a good idea to have a ground or feeder based tray to catch the waste.
